First Baptist Azle has a long history of striving after God. For the better part of a century, we have been reaching people for Christ and making them into disciples.

THE HISTORY OF FIRST BAPTIST AZLE

Throughout its history, First Baptist Azle has sought to further the kingdom of God and to minister to the needs of the surrounding community. The church was founded in 1904 as “West Fork Baptist Church” in Peden, TX. Its first pastor was S. M. Edwards

In 1956, due to the creation of Eagle Mountain Lake, which was to flood the church’s location, the church moved to 1016 Boyd Road in Azle, TX. The church changed its name to First Baptist Church of Azle. A used building was purchased and moved onto the property in 1957 (Seen in the background at the left of this picture). The West Fork facility was demolished prior to the flooding of the lake.

In 1961, a new sanctuary was built and the existing building was remodeled into office and classroom space.  In 1991 the sanctuary
was enlarged, and in 1993 a new building was added behind the existing buildings for additional classroom space.  Coinciding with the move to the new property in 2008, The Azle Independent School District purchased the property and in early 2010 the district removed the two front buildings leaving only the newest of the three buildings.
Recognizing the growth potential of the Azle area, in the early 21st Century, the church purchased 11 1/2 acres across the street at 1017 Boyd Road to allow for future growth of the church and its ministries. In 2007, the church broke ground on a new 33,000 square foot building with the intention of relocating and expanding. In September of 2008, the first phase of the building, the 1st floor, was completed and First Baptist Azle relocated to its current location at 1017 Boyd Road. The old property was sold to the Azle Independent School District. With the second phase (2nd floor) of the building complete, the church has a main sanctuary with a seating capacity of over 400, a Senior Adult center with a capacity of about 100, a youth ministry center with a capacity of about 120, and a children’s worship center with a capacity of about 100.

First Baptist Azle has continually been active in community ministries, food ministries, nursing home ministries, as well as numerous mission projects. The church has a thriving Children’s ministry, Youth ministry, and Men’s and Women’s ministries. The church has various Bible study groups. In addition, the church is annually involved in North American and International mission trips.

First Baptist Azle is affiliated with the Tarrant Baptist Association, the Baptist General Convention of Texas, and the Southern Baptist Convention. Our strategy is to be conservative in doctrine, yet progressive in ministry.  Understanding the growing challenges of the 21st century, we strive to meet the needs of others through the good new of Jesus Christ.  As the population of Azle has become increasingly diversified, FBC is seeking to meet the spiritual needs of all people in the area, regardless of cultural, ethnic, or economic background.
